FAQ

We have a number of questions people ask quite often.
EBA TM Club Team is happy to answer them:

Question:
"I decided to come to the next meeting. Do I need to agree it with somebody, to get an invitation?"
Answer:
No, you don't need to register or co-ordinate with somebody. Your decision is the most important action in this case. It is not necessary to agree your visit in some special manner. Just come, immerse and enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere of Toastmasters' meeting!"

Question:
"When and where do you meet?"
Answer:
We conduct our regular meetings every Monday from 7.00 pm to 20.30 pm at the EBS premises, 9/10, Dovnar-Zapolskogo str., Lukianovskaya Metro Station (7 minutes by foot).

Question:
"Why do people become members of EBA Toastmasters Club?"
Answer:
People join our Club in order to improve their skills in public speaking and to build their confidence.

Question:
"What specifically will I learn to do as a Toastmaster?"
Answer:
By regular practice, you will learn how to make effective prepared speeches. You will also be able to make short off the cuff speeches and contributions to discussions. Most importantly you will hone your listening skills.

Question:
"How do I learn these skills?"
Answer:
When you join you receive training materials covering all aspects of speaking and evaluation. This kit includes a Communication and a Leadership Manual which reflects the years of experience Toastmasters has in helping people just like you. The Communication Manual takes you step by step through the art of making and evaluating speeches. The Leadership Manual encourages you to use the roles you undertake in meetings to develop various different leadership skills.

Question:

"How soon will I be an expert?"
Answer:
Members progress at their own pace. Some move faster than others but everyone who joins Toastmasters' Club and participates in the program can be sure he or she will become a competent speaker.  Your skills develop steadily. As your confidence grows, the situations that once terrified you are taken in your stride.

Question:
"Is it expensive?"
Answer: No. In comparison to various courses, seminars, programs and video kits offered through the media, Toastmasters is the best value by far. In our opinion it is the most effective way to learn public speaking and build your confidence. Membership is just $42 for six months and an initial registration fee of $20. Anyone over 18 may join. To see if it's for you, just come along to a club meeting as our guest. Visitors can attend for free and are always assured of a friendly welcome without any obligation.

Question:
"Is EBA Club English language courses?"

Answer:
No. Toasmasters clubs are not language courses; Toastmasters is about developing public speaking skills. However, clubs do use English as a medium of communication during meetings. So the better your command of English is, the easier it will be for you to learn speaking skills. Being a club member, you can enhance your English speaking capabilities.
Question:
"Why Toastmasters can help me?"
Answer:
Speaking to large or small groups, or even one-to-one, may intimidate or frighten you. For instance, the fear of public speaking is at the first position out of all others. In Toastmasters you will learn how to successfully formulate, express, and sell your ideas, yourself, and get rid of that nervousness you feel when called upon to speak.
In particular you learn by doing. And your efforts are evaluated by your fellow Club members who give constructive feedback. You will be gradually introduced to the various roles within a Toastmasters meeting. Gaining proficiency in these helps to build up your skills, confidence and flexibility.
